Bouncing Lemurs and bird food

Another trip to Zoo this weekend.

The little Green Pygmie Goose was happier.  Last time he looked so depressed and was hardly moving in his tiny patch of water and I think perhaps he wanted a friend like him - there were plenty of other doves and birds and things in with him, but he was the only one of his kind.  This time he was moving around, and even treated me to hear his squeek.  And when I moved over to see the Kookaburra he followed me along the cage fence.  Sweet little thing.  He doesn't look anything like a Goose so maybe he's a little bit sad about his name.

I also discovered another bird/duck sanctuary further down the zoo, near the red panda (who was sleeping so I didn't get a good look).  In this new sanctuary, you actually walked into it and the door closed behind you, so I got to spend quite some time in there with the birds and ducks and they were just lovely.  There were probably about 15 tiny birds of the same species (I forget their name), and they were playing in the water and flying around me and one dropped a piece of leaf near me and then came to collect it.  It was so lovely being in there with just the birds (I got to the Zoo early so there were no other people there) as they were enjoying the morning sun and showing off to their captive visitor.  My cheeks were hurting again, they were so happy.

I spent some more time with the Gorillas, but they were in a pretty sorry state.  They are such intelligent animals and they just EXUDE boredom.  They don't even have to hunt for food because it's provided to them.  I feel sad to see the Gorilla family.  They don't interact with the people gawking at them at all; they just look back in extreme boredom, or ignore them completely.  So I will keep visiting them, trying to be a bit of an idiot, so they may get some entertainment out of me at some point!

And I came across some Lemurs.  Hillarious!  I didn't know about Lemurs, though according to the young family that passed by when I was there, there is a famous one in some cartoon movie.  Anyway, they are such amazing little creatures.  Jumping and pizzazzing all over the place.  Not really jumping.  More like BOUNCING.  Such lively little things, and they seemed quite happy because there were about 8 of them in there together.  And they seemed as interested in us onlookers as we were in them.  I wish I could show you a video of them bouncing around - they are such joy!  It brought tears to my eyes.

My big sister Fhruit was also in town this weekend, so we had some of mum's fresh bread for lunch (mum has been baking bread since 1974!).  And we went to see Mary Poppins, the musical.  It was quite delightful.  My favourite part was when the two kids were being mean to a dirty old woman on the street.  But Mary Poppins told them how special this woman is, because she is selling bread crumbs to feed to the birds - and how wonderful it is to feed the lovely birds.  So the kids ended up liking the dirty old woman and buying some crumbs to feed the birds.  That's my kind of dirty old woman!
