Stress free daze

So after my loved-up morning yesterday I zipped off to Melbourne for a meeting at Vic Parliament House.

My boss and I are like chalk and cheese in one respect: I try to reduce my stress levels by being organised well in advance, whereas she leaves everything to the last minute and is always rushing for a deadline (we are both well aware of this difference between us and comment on it regularly).  Catching planes has always been a frightful time with her for me, as you can imagine.  However, after 8 months in the job  and many rushed taxi-rides to airports, I have finally deduced that worrying doesn't get us there any faster.  Yesterday was great: it was the first time that my response to the thought that we may miss the flight was "oh well."  I was amazed.  I simply didn't stress.  Genius!

As Ms-well-planned-Linda-J had booked the flight to arrive in plenty of time (allowing for delayed flights and traffic jams to the meeting), we actually had some time to kill in Melbourne before our meeting.  So off we went to the Hilton where I had Turkish apple tea and flourless chocolate cake with cream.  Yummo!

Then to our Very Important Meeting at Parliament House.  I say, it's an interesting thing meeting important people.  I still don't have the hang of the "act humble but not so humble that you don't get what you want" approach.  I leave most of that to my boss and just jump in from time to time.  But I think the parliamentarian must have been impressed with my post-formal-part-of-the-meeting chit chat.  I thanked him for his time and commented that after 6 months in office his dance card must be getting pretty full.  He agreed that things were very busy, and then I dazzled him with my keen wisdom, casually proclaiming that "Well, they say it's better to wear away than to rust away."  He agreed and said he had not heard that one before (At which point I maintained silence...  I figured that I'd probably undermine my performance if I mentioned that I had picked it up from a Guru when I was living in an ashram in India).

I think I will go to the zoo tomorrow if the weather is nice.  Watch this space for some well-overdue animal lovin'.
